Office of Global Affairs (OGA) Fellows

Unit and Position:
The Office of Global Affairs (OGA) consists of Study Abroad, Student Fellowships, and International Student and Scholars Services. OGA is looking for four (4) exemplary students to serve as Global Affairs Fellows. Position may support Study Abroad and Student Fellowships, International Student and Scholars Services, or both, depending on applicants’ interest. 

Supervisor: Study Abroad Manager & International Student Advisor
Hours per week:  10 hours per week (M-F, 9AM-5PM and some weekends, exact times are flexible)
Employment Period: May 20, 2019 – June 15, 2020

Role Description: 
·        Serve as peer advisors for UW Tacoma students who’re interested in study abroad and student fellowships
·        Assist new international students with their transition to UW Tacoma
·        Create community among international and domestic students
·        Provide opportunities for students to learn about other cultures and languages
·        Create marketing and outreach materials
·        Update website content and assist in website redesign
·        Assist OGA Staff with special projects
·        Monitor application system(s) and assist with data processing
·        Communicate with students via website, social media announcements, newsletters, etc.
·        Plan and coordinate on-going events such as quarterly orientation for new international students, weekly UWTea Time, career workshops, trips to local attractions, study abroad info sessions, and others.

Minimum Qualifications:
·        Able to work at least 10 hours a week on campus during the 2019-20 academic year
·        A minimum of one quarter as a full-time student at UW Tacoma
·        Be a current UW Tacoma student in good academic standing (2.5 GPA or above).
·        Ability to attend all training sessions as well as orientations during the summer
·        Strong written and oral English skills; good communication skills
·        Ability to solve problems, take initiative, and manage conflict
·        Willingness to work with and learn from students and/or colleagues from a variety of cultural, ethnic, educational, and economic backgrounds.     

Preferred Qualification:
·        Please note that these are preferred qualifications that are not required to apply.
·        A valid driver’s license with two years of driving experience and willingness to be trained and drive a university vehicle.
·        Familiarity with a variety of social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, WeChat, WhatsApp, Line, etc.
·        Experience with web design and content management, including Canva and Drupal.
·        Demonstrated interest in and experience with international education: current international student, study abroad participant, Global Ambassador, experience living or traveling abroad, Global Honors student, etc.

Note: OGA will review each applicant’s GPA and any holds on their record. Also, please note that OGA will check the selected Global Affairs Fellows’ GPA every quarter during employment.
