Global Ambassadors Coordinator
Unit and Position:
The Office of Global Affairs (OGA) consists of Study Abroad, Student Fellowships, and International Student and Scholars Services. OGA is looking for an exemplary student to serve as a Global Ambassador Coordinator. The Global Ambassador program connects international and domestic students with each other and opportunities to discuss social justice issues.
Supervisor: Study Abroad Manager & International Student Advisor
Hours per week: 10 hours per week (M-F, 9AM-5PM and some weekends, exact times are flexible)
Employment Period: May 15, 2019 - May 31, 2020
Role Description:
· Develop marketing and outreach strategies to attract new students
· Monitor program applications and create buddy pairings
· Plan monthly cohort events and reserve rooms
· Update Global Ambassadors website and Canvas page
· Monitor student attendance and follow up with buddy groups to ensure they are meeting regularly
· Plan bi-weekly opportunities for buddy groups to interact and attend these events
· Communicate with students about upcoming events and Global Ambassadors calendar
· Identify possible guest presenters or meeting topics pertaining to social justice issues
· Attend monthly cohort meetings
· Develop program assessment tools
· Analyze student feedback to implement program changes
· Lead efforts to develop a participant-led project focused on a social justice issue relevant to campus
· Assist OGA Staff with special projects and other tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
· Able to work 10 hours a week OR 40 hours a month on campus during the 2019-20 academic year
· A minimum of one quarter as a full-time student at UW Tacoma
· Be a current UW Tacoma student in good academic standing (2.5 GPA or above).
· Ability to attend all training sessions as well as orientations during the summer
· Strong written and oral English skills; good communication skills
· Ability to solve problems, take initiative, manage conflict, and express maturity
· Willingness to share your culture and learn about others
· Previous leadership experience
· Proactive time management skills
· Understanding of UW Tacoma structure and resources
· Comfort in collaborating with UW Tacoma faculty and administrators
· Familiarity with local and/or global social justice issues
Preferred Qualification:
· Familiarity with a variety of social media platforms, such as Instagram, Facebook, WeChat, WhatsApp, Line, etc.
· Demonstrated interest and experience with international education: current international student, study abroad participant, Global Ambassador, experience living or traveling abroad, Global Honors student, etc.
· Previous experience with event planning.
· Experience designing and maintaining a Canvas page
